OUR TRAINERS

We have a rigorous selection process for employing trainers who must demonstrate not only their teaching experience but also their love and enthusiasm for the profession. These two factors are key in ensuring that professionals learn foreign languages as effectively as possible.

Most of our trainers are university graduates in their own countries who are also trained as modern language teachers. They possess qualifications such as CAP, RSA, TEFL, TESOL or the TEFLA Diploma, and have experience working in different professional fields.

For each group and student an appropriate trainer is selected to teach the in-company classes, and a programme is followed that has been especially designed by our pedagogical team.

Our monthly workshops provide our trainers with continuous training in teaching methodology and materials, and give them the chance to swap ideas and experiences with other colleagues.

TEACHER OF THE MONTH

Paul Byrne

“Prior to moving to Barcelona my primary professional experience lay within the area of corporate promotional & conference event management. Having initially studied business and marketing I then undertook a specialised course in live sound & stage production. This led to my working for a period with a major Irish event production company before specialising as a corporate event & conference management consultant. I have also worked as a course director on one of Ireland’s largest summer youth language programmes. I have worked with ICL since moving to Barcelona in October 2002. My main hobbies in Barcelona are discovering the local culture, meeting new people and studying the local language when time permits."

Stewart Morgan

"I was raised on a high-country sheep station in a very remote part of the South Island of New Zealand. I attended boarding school from age 12, and went on to study for four years at university where I gained a First Class Honours Degree in Zoology and Psychology. I’m also a fully qualified commercial pilot. I have spent the last five years travelling and teaching English in a multitude of different situations. Since becoming qualified with the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) two years ago, I have focused on teaching business English and have worked in London, Madrid and now Barcelona.
My interests include travel, music (I play the piano), reading, cinema, animals, flying and skiing, and I have a passion for learning new things and meeting new people."

Craig Baugh

“I never want my students to be stressed in class, they have enough of that in their jobs” says Craig Baugh, English professor at ICL. “Of course they will learn, but in a relaxed friendly way”, he added. Craig was born in the USA, in the state of Michigan and has been teaching English as a second language for ten years.

“Where’s Michigan?” is usually the next question. He laughed. “It’s near Chicago”, is what I usually say”. Craig has a degree in Journalism and Marketing as well as a degree in Literature from the University of Michigan. Craig has lived in Barcelona for his entire time living in Spain and his hobbies include going to the gym and reading.

Shelley Mills

Shelley was born in Melbourne, Australia. She has travelled extensively and lived in London, Vigo and Mahon before setting in Barcelona in 1986.
She has a TEFL qualification for both children and adults.
Shelley has worked for ICL for many years and has ample experience teaching all levels.
In her spare time she likes reading and watching Australian rules football.

Julianne Bagnato

I have been a teacher of English as a second language for 4 years, and have a wide range of experience including teaching migrants to Australia, teaching students preparing for university entry in Australia, university students in Barcelona and ICL students, of course. Prior to teaching completed a bachelor of Business degree and worked in marketing, finance and insurance in both Australia and the UK.

Paula Pritchard

Paula started to travel and work abroad in different countries after finishing her studies. This all stopped when she met her husband and setted down here in Barcelona. They have two children: Alex 15 and Natalie 11 who apart from speaking Catalan and Spanish also speak fluent English as this is the language they speak at home.
Paula enjoys teaching both general and business English and has taught students from the ages of 6 up to 60 years old. In her free time she enjoys walking in the mountains, preferably in spring or summer, reading, listening to music and going to the cinema. She used to do a lot of sport but as you now once there are children on the scene they take first place.
